October Update

First update since July, told you I was a lazy fucker.  In my defence I do put up regular updates and stories on Instagram these days (@onmeheadsoncvsc), they are far more immersive and easier for me to find the time to do, so every chance this will be the last blog update for a while, but I wanted to give an update for those who don’t follow me elsewhere.

In October, I completed my 12 months of Chemo! A massive milestone.  Whilst there is still a long, LONG way to go yet, it’s definitely a big hurdle that I’ve managed to get over.

The reason there is still a long way to go is because I have decided to undertake further treatment called Immunotherapy.  It will involve 12 months of treatment, with the intention of shrinking and controlling any sign of the brain tumour if it has returned.  I had an MRI scan this morning so that will all be clearer next Monday when I get the results.

There are risks involved with this treatment, and there is a 0.03% chance it can kill me, but I’ve backed horses with less chance than that and they’ve come in, so this is nothing! Reality is, all jokes aside, that if the brain tumour does return/grow, it will be more aggressive and kill me, not a case of might, it’s 100% it will return and finish me off.  Quite literally a ‘no brainer’ (pun fully intended).

Also on Sunday 14th October, I completed my second half marathon, The Royal Parks Half Marathon, along with my good friend Lee Collins.  Whilst it may not have been the quickest at around 2.5 hours, the feeling of completing it will stay with me forever, along with the chronic ankle and knee pain I’ve had since.  Most importantly, over £2000 was raised for Brain Tumour Research.

Also managed to get my mug in Running World magazine, so grab your copy today, I’ll sign them for a tenner…

Follow me on Insta if you don’t already, you’ll be kept more up to date with my journey on there than you will on here.

July update :)

So lazy when it comes to this shit, but here’s the latest.

Treatment

Just finished cycle nine of chemo.  Had to delay starting it due to England’s unexpected prolonged stay in Russia (so I could have a drink and enjoy it).  Chemo’s a weird one, first few cycles didn’t even touch the sides, recent ones are much tougher.  That’s pretty normal though apparently.  Only three more to go.

I’ve met my neurologist who will be taking over from the Oncology team in October and look after me post treatment.  Scans look good, he’s happy, I’m happy, everyone’s bloody happy 🙂

Started giving CBD oil a go, seems all the rage.  Immediate thoughts are I do notice a reduction in general aches and pains, obviously I have no idea if it’s doing anything up in my brain, but I’ll be sticking with it for the foreseeable.  Irie and ting.

Life

Still keeping fit and running when I can.  Got a place for the Royal Parks Half Marathon in October, and Ziggy has stepped up once again to support me and run it too.  We are running for the Brain Tumour Research charity, you can sponsor us here:

Got a couple of weeks off work as of next week, to do as little as possible, probably go and chill out for a bit down on the coast at my parents (much needed) but if anyone’s at a loose end, hit a brother up… (this will 100% coincide with the end of the heatwave and the start of an Ice Age in the UK)

Few exciting things on the horizon, been asked to speak at a MacMillan open day they do for their new employees, sharing my story and experience of MacMillan.  I absolutely fucking hate speaking in public (shy and retiring, me), but it’s the least I can do for them really.

And potentially a very well known publication will be running my story, which will be amazing if it all comes together.  More on that when I can 🙂

Caps

Thanks to everyone that has purchased them and raised more than I expected for charity.  They are still available, but logistically they are a ball ache, ordering a few here and there does not work at all.  So I’ll be ordering a load every 6 months and selling them.  All current orders will obviously be fulfilled, next new batch will be around November time.  Will happily take orders before then obviously, would make a good Christmas stocking filler if you ask me… 😉 Just the Black and Gold ones going forward, and #CVSC is being replaced with #OMHS

That’s it really until August now, stay cool, enjoy your summers, see you around 🙂

One love x

Go shorty, it’s ya birthday…

Just a quick update to say I celebrated my 34th birthday yesterday and it was gooooooooood 😎 Rolling Stones and Liam Gallagher at the London Stadium absolutely incredible night, despite all the West Ham branding…

Genuinely though, never one to give much of a shit about my birthday, but seeing as I had no idea if I’d even make this one I couldn’t have had a better day. I will make a concerted effort to enjoy every single birthday to the full now on.

Obviously you all know about the one big downer I experienced over the weekend with Great Northern Rail (wankers) scuppering any chance I had of making my Hackney Half Marathon starting slot. I am still pissed off now, as I am currently sat on one of their services as I type having been sat outside Alexandra Palace for 40 minutes now with no reason why. Absolute shambles. Anyway, I’m still going to do a half marathon to make up for it and I’ve worked out a route from work to my house… plan to tackle this Friday after work…

That’s all for now. Stay cool. One love 😎

On me ‘ead son…
